Youth Leadership

At SAHAYOG, we believe that young people are not just future leaders—they are powerful changemakers today. Our Youth Leadership initiative is grounded in the values of gender justice, social equity, and constitutional rights. Based in Lucknow, SAHAYOG has been working actively with adolescents and youth across urban and rural Uttar Pradesh to strengthen their voices, capacities, and agency, especially those from marginalized communities.

We focus on nurturing youth leaders through participatory training, mentorship, and advocacy opportunities that enable them to raise issues related to sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, mental well-being, and climate justice. Youth Peer Educators and community champions trained under our programs become informed advocates, capable of engaging with families, institutions, and government systems to create enabling environments.

Our leadership model emphasizes intersectionality—recognizing that young people face multiple, overlapping forms of discrimination. We particularly prioritize girls, young women, and youth from Dalit, tribal, Muslim, and low-income backgrounds, helping them to claim space in decision-making processes at all levels.

Key interventions include:

  1. Capacity-building workshops on rights, health, and leadership.
  2. School and community-based programs under the RKSK and School Health Program.
  3. Platforms for youth-led dialogues with government officials and service providers.
  4. Use of art, Exposure visit , digital media, and campaigns for awareness and mobilization.

Through these efforts, SAHAYOG has helped build a cadre of confident, rights-aware young leaders who are working to promote social harmony, gender equality, and constitutional values in their communities.
